It has been a long time.... [12 Mar 2011|04:49pm]
Hey Luxe family! It has been a while since I have been around. I have been very busy with my family. Darius and Misha are getting so big and they are into everything. This is Darius and he is 10 months old I cannot believe it will be a year since they were born in May. It seems like just yesterday. As you can see Misha is the chill one. We have baby proofed the penthouse but children can be quite creative. They have already figured out how to get the safety clips out of the power outlets and I caught Darius trying to stick a metal ladder from his fire truck into the outlet. Thanks God he did not kill himself. Even with Hayden, Sasha, Rosa, Maria and me watching I feel like we need 100 eyes.

I recently took the family to Vegas to watch my latest stunt which was walking up the side of the Luxor Pyramid unaided by wires at night; just me, the glass building and a spotlight. I practiced during the day by rappelling down the side of the pyramid that had the least steep angle. It was at least 100 degrees out and the heat from the reflection of the sun off the glass was enough to make my shoes melt. That is why I decided I needed to do the stunt at night. Needless to say Sasha and Hayden were not pleased. They are convinced I am going to kill myself one day. I keep trying to explain that I am an illusionist. Hence everything I do is an illusion. But NO, they just don’t understand. I know that some of the things I do are a bit insane and dangerous but I have a good team around me and we safety check everything from beginning to end.

There were some interesting challenges that had to be met and integrated into our safety protocols. 656 feet sides of the building, 350 straight incline from bottom to top, 30 degree angle inclination and 45 MPH wind gusts because of the height of the building and the cooling from extreme heat in the day to cooler evenings. I decided that I would need to wear all white to be seen better and have a spot light follow my movements so people would know I was not using wires. I also had a small HD camera on a strap around my neck to allow people to see what I was doing from my point of view.

We started the event at 9pm and had quite a draw. I started the climb and at first it was pretty easy but the higher I got the more difficult it became to maintain balance and avoid getting blown off the building. I had a white cane to aid in balance but it was rough. When I finally got to the top it was so exhilarating to be standing on the top with the light that can be seen from space blinding me. Needless to say my family was really annoyed with me but They still love me. They have to understand that though I am married and have a family I am still going to work. I am the top of my game and I cannot afford to let the competition catch up. I am riding this wave as far as it will take me.

Mind Freak New Season [08 Sep 2010|07:30pm]
[ mood | accomplished ]

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Well a new season of MindFreak has begun and things are really exciting in the Shadowin household. My family stayed in our home in LA while I filmed in Las Vegas. They even came to watch which was very hard for Hayden. You see, about a month before the shooting schedule started, she wanted to know what was going on; so I sat her down and explained that I had cut the season from 13 to 6 episodes since I am doing the show Believe in New York. I also explained the stunts which may not have been a good idea. I thought that if she knew in advance she would not be so frightened. Well Hayden being herself left the house. Went riding alone. Had a fall in the forest and broke her arm and dislocated her shoulder. It has been a month so she is much better. We are taking care of her and she is in physical therapy now. She can move the arm just not support weight and thank God she is not in so much pain any more. She was just so angry with me when she left. I feel really responsible for her injuring herself.

I have tried everything to reason with her. I have cut the season in half. I explain how all the illusions are done. Yes, some are more dangerous than others, but they are all illusions and under control and well though out, planned and rehearsed before we go for it. We plan for every contingency we can think of. This information has brought her little comfort especially as we have three children. This is the most recent picture of Misha and Darius who are 6 months old now. Misha is the smiling one. That baby is always so happy. Just like his father Sasha. Darius is the more serious one. He has things on his mind like I do. He is probably thinking about eating.

I think Hayden wants me to retire. I don't do it for the money anymore. I can afford to never work again. But I can't let go yet. I am at the top of my game. I am doing things I have always dreamed of and I don't want to stop. She knew how and what I was when she married me. Perhaps she thought I would stop when I had a family but I never made that promise. I have slowed down though. It is still not good enough for her. And I am sorry she worries so much but I have to be who I am.

The first stunt of the season was quite exciting. It was a jump from a suped up three wheeler up a ramp across the Grand Canyon into a cage, suspended from a helicopter half way across. Car disappears. Have a look and tell me what you think.

MindFreak has 5 more episodes to go this season on A&E. If you miss an episode because you have not heard of TIVO or a Digital Recorder you can catch scenes or full episodes on You Tube or at Mindfreak.com. I hope to see you all at an event or at "Believe" with Cirque du Soleil. And I ask if any of you are friends with my wife try to be there for her and keep her calm. I am not in danger of eminent death. That is why it is called an illision.

The Rules:

1. You MUST tag a guy or a girl that you aren't friends with. This is a game to branch out of your own social circle so if you're tagging your friends than it's going to defeat the purpose. You can tag two people at a time or just one person.

2. Your task will be to answer the five core questions (the first five) and in addition to make up a question of your own as well. As the game goes along, the next person have to answer the core questions AS WELL as the ones made by other people throughout the game thus far and add their own question and answer it. Try not to tag someone twice unless everyone has already been tagged in the game.

3. PLEASE POST THIS IN YOUR OWN JOURNAL! Please use a cut-tag for the questions because as we add to this it's going to get long. And if you're tagged you don't have to do this but you can if you like. If you have not been tagged you cannot do this yet!

4. Please post the rules along with the questions and answers in your post so that everyone can follow along.

5. HAVE FUN.

The Boys Have Arrived! [28 May 2010|12:58pm]
Hello Manhattan! I have been missing in action for a bit but I have fantastic news. On May 16, 2010 my wife Hayden gave birth to two beautiful baby boys; Darius Marcus and Misha Castiel. I am so proud of her. The birth went rather quickly. Unfortunately that meant she had to do it naturally.

Sasha and I were there to support her and offer assistance when she felt like she could not push anymore. She did a fantastic job and there was no tearing so she was able to leave the hospital in 2 days.

The boys are healthy and beautiful. Darius’ hair is getting darker and Misha still has dark hair but not as dark as Darius. We try to keep them dressed in different colors. Even though they are fraternal twins and look a bit different we don’t want to confuse them.

Hayden’s father is a beaming grandfather and Addy is a good big sister. She is learning to be gentle with the babies and we give her extra attention so she will not be jealous. It is easy to do with the three of us and the nanny Rosa.

We have decided to go to the Hamptons again this summer. My father in law is coming as well to spend more time with his grand children. This should be interesting. He knows on an intellectual level that Sasha and I are together but he has never seen us be affectionate or how we all operate as a family. I do not intend to change the way I live for the summer so I hope the culture shock is not too much for him.

We are all packed and ready to go. As I type the last of the bags are being loaded. My next update will be from the beach. It is a wonderfully large house and the back opens up right to the beach. You can hear the ocean at night and it is so soothing. I always get the best sleep there.

Sasha will be working on his book there. It is peaceful and gives him time to think. I have taken three months off “Believe” and “Mind Freak” to be with Hayden and the children. I want to bond with them before I go back to work.

Well everything is ready, and I am being called so it is time to leave. I will write from the Hamptons. Anyone that wants to visit feel free to call, text or email me. The place is HUGE so we will always have room. If you would just like to stop by for a meal and to see the children that would be nice too. I have to run now. See you in the Hamtons!

“White Death” A new escape developed for Satori Shadowin takes the "Buried Alive" escape attempt to an unprecedented level, adding the extra weight and freezing temperatures of snow and ice. Shackled and placed in a transparent coffin before hundreds of fans and then buried in ice and snow, Satori must escape his bonds and dig himself out of impossible conditions before succumbing to hypothermia, suffocation or the possibility of the ground collapsing from the weight of the snow. Many who have attempted similar escapes have perished and Houdini refused to do it again after a near death experience, so Satori must rigorously train to be prepared, especially for these nearly impossible conditions.

Demonstration Facts: This demonstration took place on Mammoth Mountain, in the Eastern Sierra Nevadas of California, 10,000 feet above sea level. The air at this altitude has 20% less oxygen than normal. Satori will have to maneuver out of handcuffs and get out of a locked coffin before beginning the most challenging portion of the escape: digging through six feet of ice and snow. When buried in the snow (as in an avalanche) hypothermia can set in within 2 minutes. The temperature six feet below the surface of the snow will be below 20° F. At 53° F, nerve & muscle cells work more slowly, severely limiting manual dexterity. Hypothermia occurs when the core body temp falls below 95° F (from 98.6° F). At this temperature, body systems start shutting down. When buried in the snow, most die of asphyxiation, not hypothermia, within 2-3 minutes.
I survived! )

Satori is a world class illusionist. He travels around the world looking for more and more dangerous and spectacular illusions to perform. He got his start in his native NYC and currently lives in Las Vegas where he is the main draw at the Luxor Hotel and Casino. He flies home to NYC frequently and owns a penthouse there as well as one in LA. He lives large and enjoys life in the fast lane, when he is not out on the party circuit he enjoys relaxing at one of his homes and reading about magic and planning his shows. He is very involved in the planning of his productions and leaves nothing to chance as he intends to live along time not to go out in a blaze of glory. He has a cult floolowing called the "Shadows" that follow him everywhere he performs and he often does special things just for them. On his website you can follow his career or join the Shadows and get a real behind the scenes look at what it is that Satori does. Escapes and levitations aside Satori does have other interests. He is very interested in history and travel and loves to read. He likes to visit the places he reads about in books and experience the feel of the place. He often gets inspiration for his shows as he travels around the globe. He prefers to go places no one else visits when he goes to a country. He finds that the most excitement can often be found off the beaten track. All in all Satori is an exciting entertainer and a lot of fun to hang with.
